70' Challenger build - see www.etikitchallenger.com  Reply with quote

has finally begun...

318 4speed car with some rot. Not going to be a "numbers" car in any way. Leave those cars to the rich peeps at Barret Jackson.

Specs:

6.1 SRT8 HEMI Crate
Twin Turbos
C5 Corvette front & rear suspension
6 speed Tremec Corvette Transmission (mounted at rear differential)
20 x 12's in the rear 19 x 8's in the front (TBD)
Baer Brakes
1.5" .120 wall DOM full tube chassis

Pics after a trip to the blaster

New tires. Fronts are 19's, rears are 20's. Not sure on exact sizes.

Cutting out the rest of the rot & making room for 12" wide 20" rims, IRS Corvette Suspenion & rear mounted transmission.

Found a bellhousing that will work to adapt to the C5 rear transmission. Not exactly sure if he is going to use the torque tube or not, but the aluminum adapter he is making will make more sense once it is finished. Will post up more details when I know.

Rear Corvette C5 suspension ready for mock up...

Arms are set to factory Corvette spec. Chassis will be built from there... The front will be the same process.

Ride height is set with a nice level body line in the rear.....

More on the bellhousing/adapter combo... Not going to use the factory Corvette torque tube. Too bulky and would have to be shortened anyway. The adapter & carrier bearing will make it possible to use a slip yoke driveshaft instead. The bearing was purchased at a specialty race shop in Portland.

Hopefully the pics will make more sense.

Can't wait to see it with baer brakes.....

Lots of things to be sure of before plunking down close to $5k on 3 piece rims... 20" height + 12" width + forged, etc.... adds up quick Laughing

Now that the suspension is mocked up with the right tire size, the correct backspace can be ordered. The other thing to keep in mind when ordering wheels is brake clearance for the fatty Baer's.... Cool

Only takes one paid build to get things off the ground...

Unfortunately, he doesn't have experience running a business, so that kind of makes things a little too risky with mortgage, bills, etc.....

Waiting on Brakes & wheels.

Baer 6S MonoBlock Caliper with 14" 2-piece Rotor. Now that these are on order, custom 3-piece forged wheels can be ordered based off of the rotor dimensions.

Track width can be finalized once wheels/tires and brakes are mocked up.

missed this last night...

My dad would be building this car for himself with or without a business name behind us. The "open our own show" idea came after the fact, and we are going to use this car as our promotions/marketing tool in the beginning. High hopes for SEMA in the future.....

The car isn't for sale, but everything has a price Cool

I may have missed this in here somewhere, but is there an exterior color scheme picked out yet?

It will likely be black exterior. There was talk about a metallic beige color (like the new color on the 08 acura tl), but I have a feeling it will be black.

The theme will be "industrial mechanical." No chrome, and the only polished piece on the exterior of the car will be the lip on the wheels. The centers are going be ordered in a raw machined finish for now. The wheel centers and other trim pieces will have a tinted clear coat later.

The pictures don't really show it, but you can see the machining on the Baer calipers through hard anodized pewter finish.
